So this morning while checking my email, I noticed there was a sale going on over at Spiritual Gangster. And the wonderful thing about shopping online is that when there’s a sale going on, you’re only one click away! So I headed over to check it out. I came across this swimsuit that I thought was absolutely gorgeous, but what really caught my eye was the model wearing it. She’s a beautiful girl, of course. But what was intriguing to me was the fact that she had stretch marks. Yes, she’s a model with stretch marks, and she’s still absolutely beautiful. I was so surprised to see her, because, you know it’s not everyday you see a model that looks like an actual person, not some dreamed up version of what someone decided all women should look like. I’m so glad that Spiritual Gangster didn’t Photoshop or edit her to look unnatural. It was a good move on their end. I hope to see more untouched photos of models in the future. Our so-called flaws are what make us unique and individuals. No one should have to strive for an unrealistic goal of perfection. We’re all uniquely beautiful.
P.S. I totally bought that swimsuit!
Xoxo, enjoy your day and don’t forget to be beautiful!
Last year, singer-songwriter, Alessia Cara released her third single, Scars To Your Beautiful. If you’ve never heard it, please come out from the rock you’ve been living under! Scars To Your Beautiful has such a positive, uplifting message for girls and women of all ages. It’s a nice contrast to so many other songs that degrade women and glorify their body parts, but never the woman as a whole.
In an interview with Lipstick.com, Alessia shares how overcoming her own struggles with hair loss helped to serve as inspiration for the song. Peaking Billboard’s charts at number 8, the chorus sings, “There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark. You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are. And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart. No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful.”
Those lines alone, make for a perfect song. There are far too many girls out there that judge themselves against some made up standard of beauty that doesn’t exist. They’re implanting and injecting themselves according to whatever the newest trend is. I’m all for people being happy with how they look, but happiness is only temporary, and I’m concerned about how those girls will feel about the way they’ve made themselves look once the trend has died. Will they go on in pursuit of the next hot thing, believing that their own look is now subpar? Or will they finally draw the line and say enough is enough?
I am extremely grateful to Alessia Cara for this song; which is well on its way to becoming a timeless classic, and I wish her much success on her future projects. I’ll definitely be keeping an ear out.
So today I woke up with tears in my eyes. I was just really frustrated about my situation and all and I knew that some time today I was gonna get that same lecture from mom about how I need another job because there’s no money coming in and blah, blah, blah. So as I looked in the closet to find something to slip on to take her to work. I didn’t feel like wearing jeans because it was pretty warm out, but I felt this nudging to put on my mint green top with my white pants and mint green shoes. At first I was like no, I wanna save that for when I go somewhere, but I couldn’t really decide on anything else that didn’t involve jeans so I got dressed and felt pretty. I just knew that for some reason by the time she got out the bathroom and I got in that she’d be rushing me so I went in to do my bun, and what do you know, she’s ready to go. So I finished up and grabbed my shoes and went to the car. That’s when the lecture started. I felt mocked and patronized about wanting to finish school. By the time I dropped her off I felt horrible and really just wanted to go home, but I needed a phone card so I went to target. Before leaving home I had that same nudging to go visit Stephanie but again at this time I just wanted to go back home because I felt so crappy. After leaving target that feeling was still there nudging me so I said okay I’ll just drive past to see if her car’s there and if not I’ll turn back and go home. I drive past and her car was there so I’m like okay I guess I gotta go in. So I do and see her around the corner; by the time I get there, she’s on her way back and sees me. We hug and say hi and she asks how k-mart’s going, and I’m like it’s aight (you know not really alright but ok). Then she says you wanna work here? jokingly I say yeah, and she’s like hold on. When she comes back she says sit down Peter’s gonna interview you! I was like what?! I pretty much got it he just needs to talk with Carlos about it. And of course I need a food card and pants, etc. But I listened to that still small voice nudging at me and look what happened. I love the way God sets me up. His timing is perfect.
So I’ve been working on my online store for a while now. It’s sort of my “baby” I’ve put a lot of hard work into each design. The process of seeing something go from its conception stage to becoming a tangible product is absolutely amazing to me. I’m really proud of the work I’ve done with it thus far. So don’t be shy. Go ahead and check it out! You can find products like the sweatshirt above, and much more just click here. xoxo
I first heard the voice of Marz Ferrer featured on Andy Mineo’s “Never Land”. Her voice was so intriguing that I had to hear more from her. I was overjoyed to find her EP, Grave Clothes and Wedding Garments. Not only does Marz have an amazing voice, but she is also an incredible songwriter. She was introduced to songwriting as a young girl, when she began playing piano. You could say that music is in her genes. She was born to a father who was part of a Doo Wop group and a mother who sang backup for several Christian music artists. Marz Ferrer’s style is very unique, as she is an alternative artist with a hip-hop inspired sound. She’s covered Kanye West’s “Amazing” as well as Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. Marz has been featured in songs by Thi’sl, Beautiful Eulogy, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. and many others. Last year, MTV’s Finding Carter featured two songs from her latest EP, Blur. Her voice welcomes listeners to travel with her as she touches on topics such as love, heartache, and faith. She is definitely one artist that I can listen to all day for hours and hours. With her “poetically transparent” writing, she hopes to create music that connects with her listeners, and point to something more than self. She seeks to bring hope to a world which lacks sincerity and is starving for authenticity. You can follow Marz on twitter @MarzFerrer
The feeling of abandonment can be very lonely and isolating. It can seem like you’re stuck in your own little bubble. Some people experience abandonment after their parents get divorced. They may feel as though their parent(s) no longer cares about them. It’s only reasonable to expect parents to care about their children, but sadly, that’s not always the case. Psalm 27:10 says, “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.” Friends can sometimes leave us feeling abandoned and left out as well. Not everybody who comes into our lives will be there to stay. You should never put all of your hope in one person. You’ll only end up heart-broken and disappointed. There will always be someone who does something that’s going to let you down. Even though people may walk out of our lives, we know that God never will. Matthew 28:20 says, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Genesis 16 tells us the story of Hagar. She was the maidservant to a woman named Sarah. Sarah was unable to have children of her own, so she allowed Hagar to become her husband’s concubine. However, once Hagar became pregnant, Sarah began to mistreat her. Hagar felt abandoned and ran away. Hagar didn’t think her plan through very clearly; she was pregnant and all alone in a foreign land, with no way to support herself. An angel found Hagar in the desert and told her that God sees her.
We don’t have to run away because God sees us too and He cares. No matter how abandoned and alone we may feel, God promised He would never leave us.(Heb. 13:5) We don’t have to let feelings of abandonment cause anger and bitterness to brew inside of us. We can choose to live in freedom instead. -xoxo
